Kicking off what looks to be a well-prepared campaign, Santa Fe City Councilor Rebecca Wurzburger said Thursday shes running for mayor of Santa Fe.
Wurzburger announced the news in front of nearly 100 people at the Santa Fe Community Convention Center.
Wurzburgers announcement puts her in the ring with three other Santa Fe city councilors: Chris Rivera, Patti Bushee and Bill Dimas. Former Santa Fe County manager Roman Abeyta is also a confirmed candidate, as is Margaret Josina Campos, a lifelong Santa Fe resident and active Neighborhood Watch member. Former state Democratic Party chairman Javier Gonzales has also said hes considering a mayoral run.
Wurzburger is wrapping up her third term — nearly 12 years — as a city councilor representing east Santa Fes District 2. She noted that her decision to run for mayor means she wont be concurrently seeking re-election to her council seat.
Wurzburgers educational rsum includes bachelors and masters degrees from Washington University in St. Louis and a doctorate in public administration from the University of Southern California. Her professional experience includes owning a construction management business.
